Back in September, Nintendo unveiled official NES controllers designed for the Nintendo Switch. For those who are interested in the controllers, an announcement on Nintendo’s Twitter page has revealed that the controllers are now available for pre-order where they are expected to begin shipping out to customers mid-December.

For those learning about these controllers for the first time, these are controllers designed to be similar to those used with the NES console back in the day. According to Nintendo, they have been designed so that gamers have a more “authentic” way of playing NES games on the Switch. However they are exclusive to Switch Online subscribers, so if you’re not subscribed, you won’t be able to buy them direct from Nintendo.

We’re not sure if there are plans to eventually make them available to all customers, but given that they are designed to be used with NES games on the Switch, which are one of the perks of subscribing to the Switch Online membership, it seems unlikely. Nintendo had also previously confirmed that the controllers will only work NES games, so if you were hoping to use them with other Switch games, you’d be out of luck.

This is a bit of a pity considering that they are priced at $60 which isn’t exactly cheap, but if you are interested you can head on over to Nintendo’s website and place your pre-orders.
