However as some of you might have heard, the WiFi Alliance has decided to simply things by naming its next-gen WiFi technology simply as “WiFi 6”, and for those shopping for a routers that offer WiFi 6 compatibility, Netgear is more than happy to oblige as the company has since taken the wraps off a couple of new Nighthawk routers.
These routers come in the form of the Nighthawk AX8 and AX12, and as usual and as expected of Netgear, these devices look nothing like your typical router, which according to Netgear they claim that such a design allows them to better position the antennas in the device. Both routers will be capable of handling up to 6Gbps of wireless data traffic, and will feature a quad-core processor to help manage said traffic.
The routers will also feature multiple Ethernet ports for those who prefer using wired connections, and a 5Gbps port for your internet link, and also a couple of USB 3.0 ports for connecting devices like printers or external storage. There is also built-in support for Alexa and Google Assistant. In terms of pricing and availability, the AX8 is priced at $400 and is currently available from Best Buy and Amazon, while the AX12 is set for a release in Q1 2019.
