Blizzard Promises More Diverse Heroes Coming To Overwatch

In the early days of gaming, male characters were typically depicted as being macho and would wear huge hulking pieces of armor, but yet for some reason female characters wearing the same armor would find those armor pieces suddenly become a skimpier/sexualized version of that armor.

Blizzard has admittedly been guilty of that in the past, but with the launch of Overwatch, the company promised to try and play down the sexual tones, although recently the company seems to have come under fire for a lack of diversity where despite featuring women characters in various shapes and sizes and races, there has yet to be a black woman hero in the game.

Speaking to Kotaku, Overwatch’s director Jeff Kaplan addressed the issue and promised that there would be more diverse characters coming to the game. “I think if you look at the history of Overwatch, there’s been such a wide variety of people that we’ve represented in the game.” Kaplan also reiterated that the team was working on at least six new heroes, and that players “won’t be disappointed”.

He adds, “There’s a lot more people who walk Planet Earth than that. But I don’t think people will be disappointed. We have a lot of really cool, interesting characters that are gonna come out over the next few years.”
