LG has put out some great smartphones on the market in recent years but they haven’t really done well in the market against all of the competition from Samsung and the Chinese companies. It continues to struggle but LG doesn’t want to give up on it just yet. As part of its executive reshuffle, LG today announced that it’s now handing over the mobile business to the executive who runs its lucrative TV business.
LG Home Entertainment President Brian Kwon will also be given control of LG Mobile starting December 1st, the company announced today. It’s clear that LG wants him to work some of the magic that made its TV business a force to be reckoned with in the market on the mobile division.
That’s actually one of the divisions that brought in records profit for the Korean conglomerate earlier this year. Kwon has been at the helm and is credited with driving the business to new heights. The company is now placing its trust in him to do the same for the mobile division.
Whether or not this move pays off remains to be seen. Kwon’s excellent leadership skills will only get the division so far. A lot more has to be done to bring LG Mobile back on track. It will be interesting to see how he repositions the company’s mobile offerings going forward and what changes he makes in the pursuit of this goal.
