There are plenty of third-party services that claim to get you likes, followers, views, and more for your social media platforms in exchange for money. Many rely on these services to pump up their follower counts on Instagram in order to artificially grow their audience. Instagram is taking notice of this and the Facebook-owned company has said that it will now be removing fake followers and likes.
Instagram is one of the primary platforms that influencers use to advertise products. Brands are also spending a lot of money on these influencers to get the word out about their products. This gives people incentive to artificially increase their audience to appear as if they have established a significant following and are a good candidate to be considered as an influencer.
Instagram says that it will be removing fake likes, follows, and comments from accounts that use third-party apps and services to boost their popularity. It has developed machine learning tools which identify the accounts that user these services and automatically remove the inauthentic activity.
The company points out that using third-party apps to generate inauthentic likes, follows, and comments is against the Terms of Use and Community Guidelines. The accounts that are identified as using these services will receive an in-app message informing them that the inauthentic likes, follows, and comments given by their accounts to others have been removed. The users will also be asked to change their password.
