Hublot, a Swiss manufacturer of high-end watches, wants some of that Bitcoin money. The company has unveiled a new luxury watch that can only be purchased with Bitcoin. It has been launched to commemorate the 10th anniversary of this digital currency. It’s part of Hublot’s Big Bang series and costs almost $25,000. Here’s the catch: You can only buy it with Bitcoin.
Hublot will only be making 210 pieces of this Big Bang Meca-10 P2P watch, a nod to the total Bitcoin supply of 21 million coins. OSL, a digital asset brokerage in Hong Kong, will perform background and anti-money laundering checks as well as provide payment services.
Hublot has confirmed that it has received orders that exceed the supply of 210 pieces. It will start delivering the watch to customers in January 2019. The transaction ID for each timepiece will be engraved on its bezel. This will make each piece unique and traceable in the event that one gets stolen and then pops up for sale someplace else. The 45mm watch is fashioned from polished black ceramic and has a skeleton dial which means you can see its innards. That’s also where you’ll find the Bitcoin logo on one of is mechanical gears.
The automatic movement has a 10 day power reserve. The strap also has a design inspired by the blockchain. It goes without saying that this watch will fetch a lot more money on the secondary market given its uniqueness.
