The company even sold off their mobile team to Google, which seems to lend itself to speculation that maybe HTC could be considering bowing out of the smartphone market. However that isn’t necessarily the case, according to a report from DigiTimes in which HTC has dismissed the notion that they are quitting the mobile market, and said that if anything they are still planning on multiple device releases.
According to DigiTimes, “HTC maintained it will continue strengthening its smartphone business with new models to be released at year-end 2018 and in early 2019.” It also seems that HTC has expressed interest in 5G technology as well. “In addition to continuing optimizing its VR platform and enriching its VR/AR content, HTC said it will also exert efforts to integrate related technologies including AI, blockchain and 5G to roll out new product lines for the 5G era.”
There have been rumors suggesting that the HTC U13 might not be launched next year, where it was hinted that HTC might choose to launch a mid-ranger in place of a flagship, but we’ll have to wait and see.
