One of the benefits of releasing a game that is free-to-play and available across multiple platforms is that it is a good strategy to try and recruit as many players as possible. Blizzard’s Hearthstone seems to have done just that because according to Blizzard, they have confirmed that the game is now boasting more than 100 million players.
The game was released back in 2014 and was Blizzard’s attempt at creating a free-to-play digital CCG featuring characters and lore from the Warcraft franchise. So far it has proven to be a hit where we see many Twitch streams dedicated to it, and also various eSports tournaments around the world where the game is played.
According to Blizzard President J. Allen Brack, “Reaching 100 million players is a huge milestone for Hearthstone, but what matters to us even more is the fact that so many people around the world have embraced the spirit of the game. Whether at events like BlizzCon and Fireside Gatherings or just in tuning in to watch their favorite streamers, it’s been so inspiring to see millions of players and fans coming together, online and in real life, to participate in the Hearthstone community.”
To celebrate the game reaching the milestone, Blizzard has announced that they will be hosting a small in-game event from the 7-11 of November where players who login during that period will receive six free Boomsday Project cards packs, and also be able to participate in challenges where they can win extra gold.
