Google launched its Files Go app in December last year. This lightweight file manager was meant to free up space on devices, enable users to find files faster, and share them with others easily and quickly even if they don’t have an internet connection. Google has now redesigned the app and renamed it as well.
Google developed Files Go particularly for users in emerging markets such as India and Brazil where the majority of users have limited phone storage. Files Go has grown tremendously ever since it was launched and has more than 30 million monthly users.
The app is being used by people across the globe since it’s not difficult to sideload apps on Android devices that are not available in a particular region. Google also notes that people are using this app regardless of what type of handset they have and how fast their internet connection is.
For this reason, it’s rebranding Files Go to Files by Google. The user interface has also been redesigned to ensure that the content of the device is the main focus when the app is launched. All of the same features and functions that were present before have been retained.
Files by Google is now available as a free download from the Google Play Store.
