Possible Google Devices Bonito & Sargo Spotted In APK Teardown

Google has a habit of naming their devices after fishes, or at least their smartphones, and it seems that there could be at least two new Google devices in the works. This is thanks to a recent APK teardown of the ARCore update in which two devices codenamed Bonito and Sargo were spotted.

This is actually not the first time that the Bonito codename was spotted. It was actually discovered earlier this year and according to WinFuture.de’s Roland Quandt, the handset could be a mid-ranger powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset. Given the possibility that the Bonito could be powered by a less powerful Snapdragon 710 (compared to flagships powered by the Snapdragon 845), like we said, there’s a good chance we could be looking at a mid-ranger, although this could be the first time Google could be launching a mid-range phone.

Google’s Nexus and Pixel handsets have so far been high-end flagship affairs, so for them to launch a mid-range handset is an interesting one, unless we’re looking at an Android One/Android Go handset. As for the Sargo, not much is known about the handset at this point in time so it’s really anyone’s guess as to what it may be.

No word on when we might be able to expect either handset, if at all. It is possible that both devices could simply be prototypes Google was working on and has since shelved, or if they could launch at a later date, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
