This is according to a report from 9to5Google who cites a source who told them that Google is in the early stages of discussion with regards to rebranding Nest. It is unclear as to why Google might be interested in rebranding Nest, but it has been suggested that uniformity could be one of the reasons why, where they might want to position the brand and its products as part of Google’s lineup that shares the “Made by Google” branding.
Nest has actually shifted hands a couple of times. The company existed on its own before it was acquired by Google. It later moved out from Google and existed as an independent subsidiary of Alphabet, Google’s parent company, but later on it moved back under Google where according to Google, it was meant to “supercharge” Nest’s mission.
According to Google at that time, “By working together, we’ll continue to combine hardware, software and services to create a home that’s safer, friendlier to the environment, smarter and even helps you save money—built with Google’s artificial intelligence and the Assistant at the core.”
