Giphy Launches Its Own Short Form Video Platform

For those who love their GIFs, Giphy is one of the main platforms that many turn to to find and send GIFs, whether it be used in chats, forums, emails, and so on. However it looks like Giphy has decided to turn their attention and expand their offerings where they will soon start to offer short form videos on its platform.

These short form videos will run for 30 seconds or less and users can upload it to their platform where others can view it. According to the company, “Giphy is now looking to the future — the future of entertainment itself —and believes an important part of this will be micro-entertainment.”

At the moment there aren’t a lot of videos available and there are about 118 videos right now. These are videos that were submitted as part of Giphy’s short-form video festival which took place recently in New York City. There is no date on when Giphy’s video section will be officially launched and opened to all submissions, but if you are interested in seeing what Giphy has at the moment and what the platform could look like, head on over to its website for the details.

In the meantime Giphy isn’t alone in trying to conquer the short form video market. Vine used to be the king, but later it was taken over by the likes of Snapchat and Instagram, although Vine’s co-founder is expected to launch a successor known as Byte in 2019.
