Gboard Will Use AI To Suggest GIFs To Users

Google is pretty proud of the AI that they’ve developed. The company recently announced that they will be using its AI system to help the New York Times to digitize its archive, and now it looks like they’ll be using AI to help make GIF suggestions to users of its Gboard keyboard application.

According to Google, “Starting today for all Android users, Gboard will use AI to suggest GIFs, emoji and stickers to you related to your conversation. This makes it faster and easier to share your #feelings and your glowing personality with whoever you’re chatting with. Keep your eyes peeled for the “GIF” icon to appear in the top left corner of Gboard. Tap it, and you’ll see a selection of GIFs, emoji and stickers that Gboard thinks you might want to share.”

Such suggestions aren’t exactly new. Apps such as LINE use a similar setup where depending on what you type, it will be able to suggest stickers that you can use in place of that word. We’re not sure if LINE uses AI to help with its suggestions, but such suggestion systems aren’t new, but Google’s choice to use AI is.

As Google notes, this feature is only for Gboard users on Android. Google does not mention if there are plans to eventually bring it to iOS devices, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled.
