Mozilla has announced a new test for its Firefox browser which will enable users to set price alerts for items that they want to keep an eye on. The browser will then send notifications when the price of that item drops. Firefox users can get the Price Wise extension from Mozilla’s Test Pilot program starting today. It supports price tracking for items available from five major retailers.
The Price Wise extension will track prices for items that are available on Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, Home Depot, and eBay. These are the top ten retailers visited by Firefox users. The company is planning to expand the list of retailers down the road.
There’s really no shortage of price tracking tools on the internet. Just look for what you want and then run it in the tool to see which retailer offers the best price. Price Wise replicates that within the browser so you don’t have to use another site.
Simply add products to your Price Watcher list and a desktop notification will come up every time the item’s price drops. It will even be possible to click through directly from the list to make purchases as soon as the price changes.
This is certainly a good feature to have in the browser particularly ahead of the holiday season when many people will be looking to purchase goods online.
