There have been many who have in the past wondered what it would be like had Blizzard decided to make Diablo an MMORPG instead of Warcraft. Turns out you might not have to wonder anymore because at Blizzcon 2018, Blizzard has officially taken the wraps off Diablo Immortal.
This is an MMORPG based on the Diablo franchise that was developed by Blizzard in a partnership with NetEase. The kicker is that this will be a mobile MMORPG that will be available on both iOS and Android devices. For the most part from what we can tell, this will essentially play like Diablo 3, except that it will be with other players (there is a focus on multiplayer but we wonder if single-player mode is available as well).
However according to Blizzard, this isn’t just Diablo 3 on mobile. Instead the game will be set between Diablo 2 and Diablo 3, where it will take place right after the Archangel Tyrael has destroyed the Worldstone and is presumed dead (we know that he isn’t in Diablo 3). This means that we can expect new zones, new bosses, new monsters, weapons, armor, and so on.
Pretty much all of Diablo 3’s classes will also return including the Necromancer, but there is no Witch Doctor which we’re not sure why. It could be either a lore thing or maybe Blizzard feels that maybe the hero might be too complex for mobile, but either way that will be pretty much the only hero that won’t be part of the lineup.
There is no word on how much the game will cost (we wouldn’t be surprised if it was free-to-play with microtransactions) or when it will be released, but we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled.
