Vertu Returns With Aster P Luxury Smartphones

Nokia first launched Vertu as its luxury subsidiary many years ago. It has since been passed from owner to owner and was most recently in the news for a bankruptcy. However, Vertu is back now with another luxury smartphone aimed at customers who have more money than they know what to do with. The Aster P Baroque and Aster P Gothic start at $4,200.

Vertu unveiled these devices at an event in China earlier this week. They boast a titanium alloy frame, a sapphire glass screen, and rear panels that are made with genuine leather. The specs are nothing to write home about as they’re effectively mid-range smartphones.

They’re both powered by a Snapdragon 660 processor with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. A 12-megapixel rear and 20-megapixel front camera are present alongside a 4.97 inch 1080p display. The handsets are available in a variety of finishes with the price obviously going up depending on the materials opted for.

The two panels at the back are an interesting design feature. They open in a gull-wing motion like the doors of a Mercedes SLS. That’s where you put the SIM card and also see the signature of the person who made the phones. Vertu’s smartphones are hand-made.

Vertu is only offering them in China currently. The Baroque and Gothic series start at $4,200 and $5,100 respectively.
