With the Equipment Installment Plan, T-Mobile allows customers to divide the cost of a new smartphone over 24 months. They have to pay a set amount every month for the next two years instead of having to pay upfront. It appears that the company is testing a longer payment option with some devices for customers who would like to spread the cost even further.
The Galaxy Note 9 is one of the devices with which T-Mobile is testing a 36 month Equipment Installment Plan option. It lets customers spread the device’s cost in 36 monthly installments. At this rate the Galaxy Note 9 will cost customers $24.17 per month for the 128GB model.
This option may be appreciated by many customers as smartphones, particularly flagships, continue to get more expensive. They’re past the $1,000 mark so a longer payment period could enable more customers to obtain these high-end devices. It would obviously benefit T-Mobile as well since it would have those customers around on its network for an additional 12 months.
T-Mobile is yet to officially announce a 36 month option for its Equipment Installment Plan. However, it has confirmed to TmoNews that this option is indeed being tested with a couple of devices. Whether or not the carrier decides to offer this to everybody will depend on the results from this test.
