Snapchat Calls Can Now Be Made Using The iOS Phone App

snapchat uploadIn the early days of VoIP apps, if you wanted to make a call using the app you’d have to launch the app itself and use the dialer within the app. It’s not particularly inconvenient, but if you had multiple VoIP apps, then it might get a bit messy. It was only later that Apple introduced the CallKit API that allowed calls to be made using the native iOS Phone app.

Now the API has been out for a while but the good news for Snapchat users is that it looks like the app has finally been updated with CallKit support. This means that just like most VoIP apps, you can now answer voice calls without having to launch the app, and also start new calls from the Phone app’s Recents list.

Prior to this update, whenever Snapchat users received a call, they would get a push notification on their phone informing them that they had a calling coming in, and they would need to launch the Snapchat app to answer it. Like we said it wasn’t terribly inconvenient, but this does help users answer their calls faster. The update will also contain new Cat Lenses. If you’ve yet to update your Snapchat, then head on over to the iOS App Store to get your hands on the latest version of the app.
