It is unclear how accurate those rumors are, but a tweet by Ice Universe (who has been known to accurately leak information in the past) has seemingly confirmed it. According to the tweet, Samsung Display held a presentation at Shenzhen, China, where the hosted about 20 customers.
During the event there was a slide that showed some of the things Samsung was working on, and one of those things was how they were working on a way to hide the various sensors directly under the display. This means that manufacturers could eventually create phones that would do away with the notch.
At the moment companies have come up with various ways around the notch. For example Samsung has relied on thicker bezels which allows them to place components like the front-facing camera. Others such as Oppo have relied on cameras that pop out, thus allowing them to create an edge-to-edge display without the notch. Whether or not we’ll see this design on the Samsung Galaxy S10 or the Note 10 remains to be seen, so take it with a grain of salt.
Great news! Samsung established the direction of mobile phone design in 2019!
