Samsung To Bolster Its Mobile Division With Foldable & 5G Smartphones

If we were to look at the market say 4-5 years ago, companies such as Apple and Samsung were at the top of their game when it came to smartphones. However now the market is flooded with more Chinese companies offering cheaper and more value for money purchases, things definitely aren’t the way they used to before.

In fact it wasn’t too long ago that Huawei dethroned Apple to become the second-largest smartphone maker in the world. That being said, Samsung also seems to have taken a hit in recent times, where according to the company’s latest financials, its mobile division is sai to have brought in a consolidated revenue of around $22 billion, but its Q3 profits were only roughly $1.9 billion.

The company has attributed this to a decrease in sales of its low and mid-range handsets, and also an increase in marketing costs. However the company does have a plan on how they might turn things around, and that is by launching its foldable phone and also 5G compatible handsets. “Moreover, Samsung will strengthen its competitiveness in the mid- to long-term by leading innovation with the launch of foldable and 5G smartphones as well as enhancing its Bixby-based AI and IoT services.”

We know that Samsung is planning on showing off its foldable smartphone next month at the Samsung Developer Conference, although it might only be in Q2 2019 that the handset might actually go on sale. That being said, the jury is still out with regards to foldable handsets, but Samsung seems to think that they might have something special on their hands.
