PlayStation Vue, Sony’s standalone online TV streaming service, has become the first streaming TV provider to be integrated with Apple’s TV app. This means that users of this app on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV will now be able to browse on-demand and live content from within Apple’s TV app.
Apple’s TV app works more like an aggregator as it brings in content from multiple providers in a single platform. Users will now be able to access content from Vue in this repository as well. They will first have to sign into their Vue account and the app will then automatically start pulling content from the service, both on-demand and live programming.
The caveat here is that the content won’t start playing within Apple’s TV app. Once users decide what they want to watch, the app will send them over to the official PlayStation Vue app where it’s going to be streamed. The whole idea here is to make it easier for users to discover content from all of the services they use in one place. That’s what Apple’s TV app aims to achieve.
PlayStation Vue is the first live streaming bundle provider to receive such integration with the TV app. It’s possible that we may see additional integrations of this sort down the line.
