NVIDIA is enabling deeper integration of Google Home with Shield. The device already comes with Assistant but it doesn’t quite have the same features that you would found on other Assistant devices. This deeper integration between the two should address some of the inconsistencies that users have noticed.
The press release mentions a lot of commands that now work with Google Home so that users can control the Shield remotely via voice. Some of these commands aren’t exactly new as they have been around for some time now already.
For example, commands like “Show me my pictures from last weekend on SHIELD” have worked previously as well. It has also been possible to get the device to play YouTube content through just voice commands.
So that does this enhanced integration with Shield bring? That would appear to be the ability to turn the Shield on and off through the Google Home, control the volume using just voice commands, and giving Google Home commands to open apps on Shield.
NVIDIA says that these new features will be rolled out to all Shield users later this month. Those who own one should expect the update to arrive for their device in the near future.
