The company had stated back then that cross-play was something they wanted to explore and was interested in, but unfortunately it seems that there are no plans to implement it now for. Blizzard has since released a statement confirming that they do not have plans to support cross-play at this time.
The statement made to DualShockers reads, “While we love the idea of bringing our players together across platforms, we do not have any plans to implement cross-platform gameplay for Diablo at this time.” This doesn’t mean that Blizzard has completely shut the doors on cross-play support, but just don’t expect to see it anytime soon.
Many had expected that Blizzard might be serious about cross-play implementation after they announced that Diablo 3 would be launching on the Nintendo Switch. Plus after seeing titles such as Fortnite gain cross-play support across all platforms, some saw a glimmer of hope, but it doesn’t look like that will be happening anymore (at least for now).
