However Nintendo has plans on how to keep its Switch gamers engaged, which they have highlighted in their recent financial results briefing (via Siliconera). According to Nintendo, one of the ways they plan on keeping players engaged is through constant updates and DLC releases for some of their bigger titles.
The company has pointed out how games such as Splatoon 2, Mario Tennis Ace, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe have benefited from various updates made to the games following their release. They also talk about hosting recurring limited-time online events in-game, where players who participate can earn special rewards or rankings.
They also highlight offline events, such as holding public world championship events for titles such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Splatoon 2, which we imagine will help generate interest in titles, as well as encourage gamers to try and play more. Whether or not these are strategies that will work in the long-run remains to be seen, but so far Nintendo has done a good job with the Switch where it has recently managed to surpass the GameCube’s lifetime sales.
