The Nintendo Switch is a little over a year old. While it isn’t as powerful compared to current-gen consoles like the PS4 Pro or the Xbox One X that offer 4K gameplay, it has managed to win over the hearts (and wallets) of many a gamer thanks to its unique playstyle and also the light-hearted games that come with it.
That being said, it seems that come 2019 we might be able to expect a new and updated model. This is according to a report from The Wall Street Journal who claims that Nintendo could be looking to launch a new Switch model in the second half of 2019. However it seems that it might not necessarily represent a massive upgrade over the current model, which we guess is fair since we’re sure Nintendo wouldn’t want to tick off their existing gamers by introducing a considerably more powerful model.
Instead the report claims that Nintendo could be looking at things like upgrading the screen to more recent LCD technology used by smartphones, making it brighter in the process. They’re also thinking of potentially shrinking the console down and making it thinner, and possibly making it more energy-efficient.
The report suggests that Nintendo hasn’t fully decided yet on what kind of upgrades the new model would have, but at the end of the day it will still be compatible with existing titles. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but we’ll have to wait until 2019 to find out. Hopefully Nintendo will have more details to share ahead of E3 2019.
