According to Apple, an out-of-warranty repair for the new iPads will cost $499 for the 11-inch model, and $649 for the 12.9-inch model. When you consider that the price of the 11-inch model is at $799 while the 12.9-inch model is at $999, you’re essentially paying more than half the price just to get it fixed.
What this means is that why some of you might gag at the idea of spending extra for additional warranty coverage, it might not necessarily be such a bad idea. As Apple notes on its website, buying AppleCare+ coverage means that you’ll be covered for two incidents of accidental damage that will only cost you $49 in terms of a service fee for each of the two times that you bring it in.
When you factor in the cost of AppleCare+ which is $129, this means that in the event that you do break your screen twice, the total cost to you would be $227, which is still a whole sight cheaper than what Apple is charging for out-of-warranty repairs. These costs aren’t surprising when you consider how much Apple is charging for out-of-warranty iPhone repairs.
