This is according to The Verge who recently conducted an interview with Microsoft’s Surface chief, Panos Panay. Panay spoke about the Surface Hub 2 which is really the first Surface device that sports a modular design, but given that not everyone needs the hub, The Verge’s Tom Warren asked if maybe that design could be brought over to other devices like the Studio.
According to Panay, he replied that it is a possibility and hinted that the company could already be working on something. “Probably, you look at it and you see what’s the evolution and how do we make it better for our customers. Yeah, there’s still so much more to do, and while I won’t tell you what it is you can put stories together.”
The idea of modular PCs isn’t exactly new. While desktops do allow users to swap out hardware, sometimes it’s not always a plug and play experience. Several years ago Razer explored the idea of a modular PC system, but to date we haven’t really seen anything like that hit the market.
