The concept of dark and light themes aren’t exactly new and we have seen that applied to websites and apps in the past, although in recent times, it seems that there is a greater call/demand for such features. macOS Mojave introduced a dark mode which is applied across the OS and native Apple apps, but it did not necessarily apply to third-party apps.

For those who do enjoy macOS Mojave’s dark mode, you’ll be pleased to learn that Microsoft has confirmed that Office for macOS will be getting dark mode soon. This was revealed by Microsoft Office product manager Akshay Bakshi on Twitter who shared a video that showed dark mode for Office in action.

However it should be pointed out that right now dark mode for Office is currently only available for testers, meaning that for the most part it is still in beta. However it is expected to eventually become available for Office 365 subscribers once the feature has exited the beta and is ready for a public released.

For those who aren’t subscribed and who might have purchased the standalone Office 2019, it is unclear if dark mode will arrive for you guys as Microsoft did previously state that Office 2019 would be a one-time release that won’t receive feature updates.
