The publication is pointing towards how it appears that in-store pickup of the displays are no longer available. Instead for the most part, a lot of Apple’s retail stores are now saying that the displays are “Unavailable for pickup”, suggesting that inventory for these displays are out of stock.
This isn’t just some fluke that only affects a handful of shops. AppleInsider found that this applied to other countries as well, such as Canada, the UK, Germany, France, and Australia, with Singapore still being the only market where the UltraFine displays are available for pickup in-store. They note that this is unusual as in-store pickup has always been available since the monitors were introduced.
As to what this means, it is possible that some production snags could have resulted in the monitors being restocked slower, or it is possible that new models could be on their way which is why Apple isn’t bothering to replenish existing inventory. Apple is expected to hold another event later this month to unveil new iPads and new iMacs and laptops, so perhaps we will see new displays announced then as well.
