According to ICANN, they claim that this maintenance work is necessary especially in this day and age where we’re seeing a rise in cyber attacks. In a statement made by the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), it seems that not everyone will necessarily be affected by this, and that it will depend on your ISP and whether or not they’ve already prepared themselves.
The CRA says, “To further clarify, some internet users might be affected if their network operators or Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have not prepared for this change. However, this impact can be avoided by enabling the appropriate system security extensions.” We can only assume that most ISPs should have already prepared themselves for this, but in the event you do experience network interruptions for certain websites or when making online transactions, fret not as it should all be done with in the next 48 hours, although we suppose if you can help it, maybe hold off on making any sensitive transactions until it has passed.
