This has been confirmed in a statement Huawei made to Business Insider where a spokesman said, “We are not planning to sell the Mate 20 Series in the US.” The spokesman also acknowledged that some US retailers might be selling the phone, but customers should probably check to ensure network compatibility since these listings might be based on imports of the phone designated for other markets.
“While international variants of the Mate 20 Series may be available on some US online retail sites, we encourage individuals to carefully read the details about the warranty and network compatibility before purchasing.” This isn’t surprising when you consider that companies such as Huawei and ZTE have been targeted by US lawmakers over concerns about spying on behalf of China.
Huawei hasn’t really had a very good year in the US. The company was initially supposed to launch smartphones on US carriers but that deal fell through. Best Buy also stopped selling the company’s phones, although ZTE seemed to have it much worse as the company nearly had to shut down following a near-ban in the US.
