According to a report from XDA, Google is testing manual backup to Google Drive for Android. Before this users who wanted to backup their phones to Google Drive weren’t able to choose when to backup their phones as this was an automated process dictated by time and/or power, but apparently Google is changing that by giving users the option to backup their phones whenever they want.
Granted there are other options to backup your device, such as choosing a different cloud storage service, or backing up to your computer, but if and when this feature does roll out, we’re sure that many can appreciate it. It also would not require users to have to root their devices just to use apps such as TitaniumBackup.
Unfortunately there’s no word on when Google will actually release this feature, but given that it is being tested in Android 9.0 Pie, hopefully it won’t be too long until the feature is made available to all devices running on the latest version of Android.
