Garmin Instinct Rugged Smartwatch Announced

Smartwatches these days for the most part are seen as fashion devices. Sure they do come with various health and fitness tracking capabilities, but a lot of them have been designed so that they can be used for day-to-day wear like at the office or when going out with friends without it looking like you’re headed to the gym.

At the same time we understand that there are some users who might prefer using their smartwatches more for fitness and activity tracking, and might appreciate a watch that’s been designed to withstand the elements. If that describes you, then you might be interested to check out Garmin’s latest offering in the Garmin Instinct.

This is a new smartwatch by the company which has been designed for ruggedness in mind, as you can clearly see from the photo. It also seems to be aimed at users who prefer to use it for outdoor activities as it does come with GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo satellite support. There will also be a 3-axis compass and barometric altimeter built into it, a heart rate tracker, and has also been given a MIL-STD 810G rating for thermal, shock, and water resistance.

Garmin is also boasting that the device can actually last 14 days in smartwatch mode, so if you’re not using it to track your activities and want to use it as a normal smartwatch, you should be able to use it for almost half a month before needing to recharge it. The Garmin Instinct is priced at $300 and is available for purchase via Garmin’s website.
