The recent hack which revealed information of millions of users may have compelled Facebook to take more concrete measures to improve the security of its platform. To that end, the company might be thinking about acquiring a cybersecurity firm. That’s what a new report has claimed.
Its hunt for a cybersecurity company comes almost a month after Facebook announced that tokens for some 30 million accounts were stolen by hackers. The tokens allowed them to access basic information such as names, emails or phone numbers for 14 million users and additional information for some 15 million users.
The acquisition of a cybersecurity company will serve two purposes. Facebook will obviously get special security talent and it would also serve as a public relations move to show that it’s seriously improving the security of the world’s largest social network.
The Information hears from multiple sources that Facebook has been talking to multiple cybersecurity firms about a possible acquisition and that a deal could be closed by the end of this year. The names of the companies that it’s in talks with haven’t been disclosed.
Facebook hasn’t officially confirmed or denied this report as yet so it’s keeping its cards pretty close to its chest about this right now.
