It’s not uncommon for users to experience a few issues with a new product. Their complaints are often amplified on social media and the support forums until the issues are ironed out. There seem to be quite a few complaints about NVIDIA’s RTX 2080 Ti graphics card so far. The cards are reportedly failing at a high rate.
There’s nothing to suggest that there’s a problem with the entire Turing-based lineup or a particular step of board production. The reports have only been about the RTX 2080 Ti and not the RTX 2080. Both are built on different physical GPU dies anyway.
Quite a few users have reported that their RTX 2080 Ti cards have failed after being used for a short period of time. Some even say that their cards were dead on arrival. There have even been claims from users saying that they’re on their second RTX 2080 Ti card.
It’s obviously alarming to hear that some users have had multiple cards fail on them while others have received them dead out of the box. It’s not uncommon for someone to get a single bad board but there are many voices now with the same complaint.
NVIDIA isn’t saying that there’s a large-scale problem with this card in particular or the RTX family in general. “We are working with users individually but we are not seeing any broader issues,” said a spokesperson for the company.
