Analyst Claims ARM Powered Macs Will Arrive In 2020 Or 2021

For years there have been talks that Apple could eventually ditch Intel and start making ARM-powered Mac computers. When exactly that will happen remains to be seen, but notable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo seems to think that it might not be too far off into the future, and that it could happen as early as 2020 or 2021.

We know that some of you might be skeptical about this, but recent benchmarks of Apple’s A12 Bionic chipset have shown that in theory, the test scores have shown that it comes pretty close to the scores shown by desktop-grade processors, which means that in on paper Apple isn’t too far away from creating an ARM chipset that could power a laptop or desktop.

Of course there are many considerations to be taken when creating an ARM-powered computer. Microsoft had previously attempted to create computers using ARM processors which resulted in the Surface RT device and the Windows RT platform. The problem with said design is apps, in which while on the surface it looked like a Windows computer, what would work on Windows 8 (which was what Windows RT was based on) would not work on Windows RT, resulting in fragmentation.

We’re not sure how Apple plans on overcoming this problem but we suppose we’ll just have to wait and see, either way we’re still a couple of years away from seeing if Kuo’s predictions come true.
