When Apple unveiled iOS 12 it said that support for contactless student ID cards would arrive in Apple Wallet. A few weeks after it released iOS 12 to the public , it’s now following through on its promise. The company has confirmed today that Apple Wallet now supports contactless student ID cards. Students at three universities will be the first to use contactless ID cards via Apple Wallet on their iPhone and Apple Watch.

Students at Duke University and the Universities of Alabama and Oklahoma can now add their ID card to Apple Wallet and use it to quickly pay for items on campus, get into their dorms, the gym or the school library.

“By adding transit, loyalty cards and contactless ticketing we have expanded the capabilities of Wallet beyond payments, and we’re now thrilled to be working with campuses on adding contactless student ID cards to bring customers even more easy, convenient and secure experiences,” said Jennifer Bailey, Apple’s vice president of Internet Services.

This will allow students to leave their wallets behind as they can already make payments with Apple Pay on the go. With their ID cards in Wallet as well, they will be able to go about their day on campus without having to worry about carrying the physical card.

Apple confirms that Johns Hopkins, Santa Clara, and Temple Universities will get this as well by the end of this school year.
