Previously the Ministry of Sound playlists were available on Spotify as well, but now with this exclusive deal, it looks like users who like listening to House, Trance, or other genres of EDM, will have to turn to Apple Music if they want to get their Ministry of Sound fix. Of course users can cobble their own playlists together, but we imagine that these playlists have been specially mixed to be played in its entirety.
As the report from Variety notes, this is not the first time that Apple has managed to land an exclusive playlist. The company had previously managed to sign an exclusive deal with Universal for its Peaceful Music playlist. Apple had also managed to sign pretty big artists such as Beyonce, who several years ago debuted a brand new surprise album that was exclusively available on iTunes.
Like we said, exclusives are a good way to convince customers to sign up for your services, but a recent report revealed that exclusives in video streaming are one of the reasons why piracy is back on the rise as customers can’t be reasonably expected to sign up for multiple streaming services just for one or two shows, which we imagine can also be applied to music streaming as well.
