Analyst Claims Huawei’s Kirin 980 Narrows The Gap With The iPhone Xs

While many make fun and/or criticize the company’s choice when it comes to certain hardware decisions, it’s safe to say that when compared side-by-side in speed tests, Apple’s iPhones generally prevail. However this year could be different as Huawei thinks that its latest Kirin 980 chipset will finally be able to overtake Apple.

Unsurprising that’s something you might expect Huawei to say, but it seems that they’re not alone in their thinking, nor does it seem like an empty boast. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has recently released a research note in which claims that the Kirin 980 will help narrow the gap between Huawei and Apple in terms of smartphone performance.

Kuo’s note does not mention whether the Kirin 980 has beat out the A12 Bionici found on the 2018 iPhones, but his note does seem to indicate that it could be a pretty close fight. That being said should the Kirin 980 really outperform the A12 Bionic, not all phones will be able to take advantage of it.

This is because Huawei had previously stated that they had no intentions of selling their Kirin processors to other companies, meaning that just like Apple’s A-series chipsets, the Kirin chip will be exclusive to Huawei.
