A report from Bloomberg who cites people familiar with Apple’s plans has revealed some details about the upcoming refresh. Some of it we already know, such as the inclusion of Face ID, the change from a Lightning port to USB-C, and also an edge-to-edge display. However some other details revealed include how the tablet will continue to use LCD instead of OLED, and how it could be packing its own custom GPU.
Much like Apple’s iPads in the past, the 2018 iPad Pro is expected to use a variant of the A12 Bionic processor that should feature slight gains over the current A12 Bionic found in the 2018 iPhones. However Bloomberg’s report claims that it could also feature its own custom GPU, a first for the iPad, although not that surprising as we have heard rumors in the past that Apple is apparently developing its own mobile GPU.
We’re not sure how much better this custom GPU will be, but it doesn’t come as a surprise given Apple’s tendency to be as self-reliant as possible. Either way we should have the official details next week, so check back with us then for the updates.
