Tesla holds a lot of promise but the company’s struggles with the production of electric cars have been well documented. It continues to take steps to further streamline production and meet its quarterly targets. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has confirmed today that the company is dropping some color options for its cars so that it can simplify the production process.
Tesla previously offered seven color options for all of its cars which include the Model S, Model X, and the Model 3. It’s looking to further streamline production after failing to meet multiple production deadlines for its mass-market electric car.
Musk tweeted that Tesla is moving two of the seven available color options “off the menu” to simplify manufacturing. The colors in question are Obsidian Black and Metallic Silver. Customers will be able to get them but they would have to make a special request. Not only that, they would have to pay over and above the car’s price to get these colors.
A spokesperson for the company followed up on Musk’s tweet by saying that “We occasionally adjust pricing and available options to best reflect the value of our products and to streamline our manufacturing operations.” Tesla will continue to offer five colors with no additional charge. They include Solid Black, Midnight Silver Metallic, Deep Blue Metallic, Pearl White Multi-Coat, And Red Multi-Coat.
