Last week Telltale Games announced that they would be conducting massive layoffs at the studio, indicating that the company was in the process of shutting down. However the statement read that there will be some staff remaining to help fulfill the company’s obligations to its board and partners.
This seemed to suggest that ongoing projects could still be wrapped up, including the final season of The Walking Dead game. Unfortunately that might not longer be the case, according to a tweet by Melissa Hutchison who does the voice acting for Clementine in the game. Hutchison claims that Telltale is expected to go ahead and release Episode 2 of the final season, but will stop after that.
Hello friends. I am so very deeply moved by the messages of love that I, and the folks from @telltalegames have been receiving. Yesterday was one of the toughest days ever. A lot of hearts were broken, including mine. Please read the attached. #TelltaleJobs #Clementine #TWD pic.twitter.com/Fb68z86j8e

This is actually not the first time that rumor has come about. Previously US Gamer had also heard from a source that Episode 2 will be the final release and that would be it for the game. It is a shame considering that many are looking forward to the game being wrapped up for good, and to leave it hanging in the last season does seem like a pity.
Telltale did previously state that they will be making more comments about its product portfolio in the coming weeks, so hopefully there will be more details about the fate of The Walking Dead’s final season.
