While the company did not announce new cameras at Photokina 2018, the company did announce their plans for new lenses. According to Sony’s announcement, it seems that the company is planning on launching at least 12 new lenses for its mirrorless cameras. This will bring the total number of native lenses for its Alpha lineup from 48 to 60, which hopefully will help encourage photographers to stick with Sony as well as to tempt new customers.
This puts Sony well in the lead in terms of lenses available for their mirrorless cameras, in which Nikon and Canon have a lot of catching up to do, especially with the introduction of new mounts which also means that new native lenses need to be made for it. This is not a bad thing for the industry as previously Sony was criticized for its somewhat weak lineup of lenses, but hopefully the addition of these 12 new lenses will change things.
