Not All Samsung Galaxy S10 Models Will Support 5G

With carriers starting to roll out 5G coverage this year, with plans for huge expansions in 2019, it’s safe to say that phones launched in 2019 will start to support 5G. For Samsung fans, we’re sure some are wondering if the Galaxy S10 will support 5G. There have been reports that Samsung is developing Exynos chipsets with 5G modems, but a new report suggests that not all Galaxy S10 models will support it.

According to a report out of Korea from The Bell (via SamMobile), Samsung will launch the Galaxy S10 with support for 5G, but not all models will get support by default, and that the 5G model could be launched as a standalone variant. This means unless you buy the 5G model, the other Galaxy S10 and S10+ variants won’t support it.

However as SamMobile rightfully points out, this isn’t the first time that Samsung has done something like this. Back in the day when 4G LTE networks were still relatively new, Samsung launched a LTE-A variant of its Galaxy S4 smartphone, so to see Samsung do the same with the Galaxy S10 doesn’t come as a surprise.

Many handset makers have also promised that they will be launching 5G capable smartphones. In fact a recent photo teased by Xiaomi for the Mi Mix 3 suggests that the phone could be launching with support for 5G.
