According to the report, the Samsung phone when unfolded will sport a display size of 7.3-inches. Given that the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is Samsung’s largest smartphone with a 6.4-inch display, the foldable phone could very well dethrone the Note 9. However note that this is when the phone is unfolded, but when the device is folded, its external display is said to measure at 4.6-inches.
It’s actually interesting since this concept is actually from back in the day of the feature phone, where flip phones allowed manufacturers to create larger devices but in a smaller form factor. The main difference here would be that the device could be pretty much all display and comes with all the smarts one would expect from a smartphone.
Samsung Mobile head DJ Koh had previously stated that one of the challenges of creating the device was trying to differentiate it from being a tablet, in which the company doesn’t want users to think of the unfolded phone as merely a tablet. Exactly how Samsung plans on achieving that remains to be seen, but we should find out in the next couple of months at Samsung’s Developer Conference in November.
