Standalone, Wireless Oculus Quest Headset Confirmed For Spring 2019

One of the problems of early iterations of virtual reality (VR) headsets like the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift is that they required to be connected to a power PC and tethered with a wire. This severely limited its usefulness as it meant that mobility was not very possible, unless you had a huge room and very long cables.

However things have changed over the years and we’ve seen HTC launch their own standalone headset, and for those who might prefer what Oculus has to offer, then you’ll be pleased to learn that the Oculus Quest has been confirmed for a release in the spring of 2019 where it will cost customers $399 to own it.

Oculus Quest: Under the Hood

For those unfamiliar, the Oculus Quest was previously known as the Santa Cruz and it actually has been in development for a while. Basically this is the company’s take on a standalone, wireless VR headset that can power itself, meaning that it will not require users to connect it to a separate computer or rely on external sensors. It also isn’t the company’s first standalone headset as Oculus had previously launched the Oculus Go, but the Quest will be a more powerful and robust version.

For $399 it isn’t too much to ask considering that it isn’t far off from what VR headsets had cost when they first launched. No specific dates were provided just yet so we’ll just have to keep our eyes peeled for more info.
