There have been lots of rumors about Nokia developing a penta-lens smartphone. That would mean the handset will tout five camera lenses at the back. The company has never said anything about such a device but an image has leaked out of China which suggests that it may have developed the device
The image was originally posted on a network in China and was later deleted. It has since been archived so we can get a glimpse of this unusual device. HMD Global, the company that’s making Nokia-branded smartphones now, has not said anything about a penta-lens smartphones at this point in time.
It’s pertinent to keep in mind that faking images like this isn’t particularly difficult. Anyone with half decent Photoshop skills could do that. Therefore, it’s imperative that due caution be taken with this image. No further evidence has emerged as yet to support the possibility of this device being a reality.
As for what this penta-lens system may be used for, it would likely boast additional imaging capabilities. Or it could just be overkill without delivering any real purpose. For all we know, this may be a prototype that’s not destined to ever see the light of day. This is far from being a reality at this point in time.
Update: there is a second leak, with a better photo.
