Unfortunately if you were hoping to see it arrive in 2019’s iPhones, you might be disappointed to learn that might not happen. This is according to notable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who claims that the TrueDepth system might not make it to the 2019 iPhones. He claims the reason for this is apparently due to the fact that TrueDepth in its current iteration is insufficient at creating a “revolutionary” AR experience.
He also points out how the TrueDepth system does not actually improve photo taking functionality, which means that adding it wouldn’t really serve a purpose. Instead Kuo claims that Apple is expected to maintain its dual camera setup even in 2019, despite the fact that we have been hearing rumors that Apple could introduce a third camera to its system.
In any case take it with a grain of salt for now but if you were looking forward to a rear-facing TrueDepth camera system, it seems that you might have to wait until 2020 at the earliest, if at all.
