However it seems that the event has since been delayed following an earthquake that only recently happened over in Hokkaido, Japan. Nintendo does not mention when the new Direct conference will take place. According to the company, “Due to the powerful earthquake in Hokkaido, Japan, we have decided to delay this week’s planned Nintendo Direct. We will provide a new time and date in the near future. Thank you for your understanding.”
For those who are unfamiliar with what transpired in Hokkaido, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 struck the region of Japan at 3:08am. It has been reported that at least seven people have been confirmed to be dead, while around 30 people were unaccounted for. There were also video cameras that showed how the earthquake disabled the power systems in the region, leaving about 3 million homes without electricity.
The island also played home to a nuclear power plant, which thankfully was offline at that time and used a backup generator to keep spent fuel cool. According to nuclear regulators, there were no signs of abnormal radiation.
