Ellen DeGeneres hasn’t done stand-up in quite some time now but she did mention about a year ago that she might return to it through a Netflix comedy special. There’s more information about the new Ellen DeGeneres stand-up special. Netflix has confirmed that the comedy special is going to be released on its streaming service come December 18th. It’s titled Relatable.
Netflix has confirmed that the new Ellen DeGeneres stand-up special will premiere on its service on December 18th. The teaser clip that it has posted online doesn’t give any major hints about what we can expect from this special. It does feature DeGeneres confirming the premiere over and over again while dropping big names tongue-in-cheek.
It’s not surprising to see that DeGeneres went with Netflix for her return to stand-up instead of a conventional broadcaster. It could be that the online streaming giant is willing to spend a lot more to attract top talent and the fact that it already has a sizeable audience that does watch these stand-up specials.
Netflix is no stranger to bringing comedy specials to the masses. It also roped in Chris Rock for stand-up specials that it reportedly spent $40 million on. DeGeneres won’t be doing a series of them, though, as Relatable is believed to be a one-off special.
